What is GRASP?
The GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) is an add-on certification module that evaluates workers' health, safety, and welfare on farms. Good agricultural practices are not just about products but also about people.
Designed to complement the Integrated Farm Assurance standard, GRASP is a voluntary, farm-level social/labor management tool for global supply chains that addresses critical social responsibility issues. The framework is built on four main pillars:
1) Workers' voice
2) Human and labor rights information
3) Human and labor rights indicators
4) Child and young workers' protection
Applicable to farms of all sizes across crops, flowers, and aquaculture sectors, GRASP uses a risk-based assessment approach aligned with International Labour Organization conventions and UN Sustainable Development Goals. Currently implemented by over 115,000 producers in more than 100 countries, it promotes responsible labor practices affecting 1.8 million workers worldwide.
A positive working environment has a significant impact on both product quality and production facility cost efficiency. The value and benefits of well-trained, motivated, and protected workers can be seen all along the supply chain. As a management tool, GRASP helps producers establish and maintain a good social management system on their farms by defining minimum requirements for responsible social practices in primary production.
